It's that time of year!
No, not autumn.... It's time for flu shots!
Flu shots fall under the category of preventative care benefits, so all Marketplace health plans and many other plans must cover flu shots 100%, without charging you a copayment or coinsurance. This is true even if you haven’t met your yearly deductible.
Remember to get your shot from an in-network doctor or a pharmacy that accepts your plan!
Updates from the CDC
There are a few updates from the CDC for the 2021-2022 flu season this year. Remember to go directly to their website for the most up to date information.
The differences for this year include:
The composition of flu vaccines has been updated.
All flu vaccines will be quadrivalent (four component), meaning designed to protect against four different flu viruses.
Licensure on one flu vaccine has changed. Flucelvax Quadrivalent is now approved for people 2 years and older.
Flu vaccines and COVID-19 vaccines can be given at the same time.
Guidance concerning contraindications and precautions for the use of two flu vaccines – Flucevax Quadrivalent and Flublok Quadrivalent – were updated.
The earlier the better!
Most clinics and drugstores start distributing the flu vaccine around mid-September, and it is best to get your shot before Halloween. Get in there soon and stay healthy!
