Why Is My Health Insurance Changing Because of Medicaid?

You may have received a notice that your Marketplace subsidies were reduced or removed because of Medicaid. What’s happening? The Marketplace now matches its records with state Medicaid offices to check for duplicate coverage.
What the Medicaid Match Means
If someone on your Marketplace plan is also listed as having Medicaid, the Marketplace assumes they don’t qualify for subsidies and removes financial help for them. This is part of a new system designed to prevent overlap in government programs.
Common Situations
A child is enrolled in Medicaid, but parents are on Marketplace coverage.
The state Medicaid system shows outdated information that isn’t correct.
Only part of the family should be on Medicaid, but the Marketplace flagged the whole household.
How to Fix It
Update your Marketplace application. Remove members who have Medicaid from your plan so the rest of your family still gets subsidies.
Provide proof. If someone doesn’t actually have Medicaid but was flagged, you can provide documentation to restore subsidies.
File an appeal. If the Marketplace doesn’t fix the problem quickly, you can appeal—but that process can take 4–6 weeks.
Call a local agent. Utah Avenue Insurance can help you update your application, submit proof, or file an appeal—all at no cost to you.
