Hungry Bear Chocolate Chip Cookies

Utah Avenue Insurance is a family owned business including sisters Birdie and Kathy.

Birdie doesn't like the spotlight and takes care of all the behind the scenes book work. Kathy is one of our agents helping you with health insurance questions and needs. But they love spending time together. Working, playing and vacationing together is such a treat for these sisters.

Baking is one of their favorite things to do together, besides crafting. So we thought we would share some of their favorite recipes with you. As any good recipe that has been handed down through multiple generations, we'll give you their tweaks to these recipes.

First we have Hungry Bear Chocolate Chip Cookies. This was a family favorite and a classic. These cookies never lasted more than a couple of days in their home. It's still a go to recipe for a yummy treat.

Hungry Bear Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • 1 Cup Brown Sugar

  • 3/4 Cup Sugar

  • 1 Cup Butter

  • 2 Large Eggs

  • 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla

  • 2 1/2 Cups Flour

  • 1 1/4 tsp Baking Soda

  • 2 Cups Chopped Nuts

  • 3 Cups Chocolate Chips

Cream sugar and butter together till smooth. Growing up, their house usually only had margarine. Recipe taste wonderful with either. Add eggs and mix till smooth and a little fluffy. Mix in vanilla. Add flour with the baking soda on top of flour and mix. Kathy hated nuts, so they usually skipped those or only put nuts in half the mix. Mix in chocolate chips.

This part is key. Cool at least one hour. Overnight is much better. If you only have time to cool the dough for an hour, add 1/2 cup more flour. Spoon dough onto cookie sheet and cook for 8-10 min at 400 degrees. To tell when they are done, they will look slightly doughy in the middle, but by the time you let them cool on the rack, the middle will have cooked through.

Recipe for a Fabulous Valentines

  1. Make a batch of these delicious cookies. When you chill the dough overnight, try not to eat all the cookie dough.

  2. Eat the cookies. Maybe share one with your Valentine.

  3. Stop by our Payson office for a cookie and tell us how awesome your health insurance agent is. Yes, we will have cookies in our office just for you.

Happy Baking
